Diamond Jubilee Garden Party in Texas

What a great excuse for a party – The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  We decided it had to be very British (well everything except the weather).  It was a Garden Party with Ascot style hats and swimming costumes accompanied with Pimms, cucumber sandwiches, sausage rolls and victoria sponge.

Stuart ordered some Union flags (not Union Jacks since they are not on one of Her Majesty’s ships) to decorate the house.  He made a flag pole from our broom handle and attached it to the tree at the front of the house and then we used the rest as table clothes and decoration around the back garden.

Stuart did about 3 days of cooking in preparation making sausage rolls with home made ground sausage, pork pies, mini ‘deconstructed’ ploughman’s, coronation chicken, egg mayonnaise, vol au vent cases and so much more.  Most of it he has written about it on his blog- www.wearenotfoodies.com.  I managed to contribute with some scones, marmite pinwheels and 4 loafs worth of sandwiches on the day!  We also got help from some of our guests with Laura making a beautifully decorated victoria sponge, Dave brought his yummy mini toad in the holes and Cecelia kept us healthy with a steak salad!

It was as expected a super hot day so the pool was a great asset and when it all got too hot you could always escape inside for a bit of a cool down in the air con!

Gena and I made our own hats my looks like a flower garden but Gena was a diamond spectacular where she had duck taped a cardboard cut out decorated with diamond beads to a headband – it was very good.  Even the babies came in their best British outfits with Evie in a London

The party lasted all afternoon and then continued into the small hours!  Poor Gretchen ended up taking herself to bed since her owners were partying too late!
