It was the Houston Highland Games today. I agreed to go along with Laura and help on the competitors registration desk. The only downside was I had to be there for 7am, and I woke up at 6:30am because my alarm didn't go off! My new mobile phone has a default that sets all alarms to pm - why!
It was a lovely sunny day and I sat behind desk signing in all competitors in up until midday, wearing my very yellow volunteers t-shirt. It was so strange to see pipers walking across the car park in kilts! Mind you, there were some in very interesting combinations - cowboy hat and kilt. There also seemed to be a thing for sporrans with animal heads. At the event there were stalls for all different clans - but, I didn't notice any Ferguson's!
Laura and I watch the huge pipe band parade that was really impressive. I almost felt like I was home, if it wasn't for the heat :) There was men's athletics, these guys were gigantic! We watched them at shot putt, but unfortunately, had to leave before tossing the kaber.
To top the day, we ate haggies, neaps and tatties for lunch.
Laura was going off to a wedding in the evening, so I went and got a pedicure while she did the full hog. The tickley feet thing is no better the second time around! After that, I left Laura, and went off to look at a furniture clearance place that was recommended. It was still quite expensive and most of the sofa's were typically large and hot looking. Not the sort of thing I really want. I also managed a bit of shoe shopping, including a pair for the 26th June!
Well, thunder and lightening started again tonight. The poor gardeners at the apartment block have spent the last two days putting more mulch down after the last rain storm washed it away - hope it doesn't happen again! Stuart and Iain walked the Lairg Ghru today and got rather wet, so maybe our rain is in sympathy! I hope they have a better return journey tomorrow. This little bird was taken refuge on my balcony during the heavy rain.
