I found a supermarket that sells Marmite, so if we ever run out of our 3 enormous jars we will be okay. However look at the size and the price. It would have to be a big emergency.
Today Em, Di and myself went to the Houston Hot Sauce Festival. There was a nice breeze to cool us down as it was outside, but it wasn't enough to cool us down from the onslaught of chili heat. At one tent (CaJohns Fiery Foods) there was a line of 8 sauces that went from mild to super hot that the girls persuaded me to try. The first few were mild, with lots of flavour, but basically Jalapeno sauces. Then came the Habenero sauces. Still lots of flavour, but getting really hot, but bearable. Next were the Jolokia sauces. Oww! Really hot and then to finish were Jolokia sauces with Capsaicin extract. I could still speak at the end, but within 30 seconds I was sweating, burning and shaking. I needed water quick! I ran to the beer tent and asked for a beer quick. The guys serving the beer joked that it was really expensive and I said I didn't care how much it cost. I needed it now. It took a good half an hour to cool down. I have never had anything as hot as that in my life, but it would do it again.
I then persuaded Em to try a 3 sauce line up at another tent (Howard's Yummies). Di wimped out. I couldn't taste any heat in the first 2, because of the other hot sauce. The 3rd one (The Dead) I thought was a bit hot, but poor Ems cried cause of the heat. She was okay after some water and a Snow Cone.
Roll on November cause there is a Chili Cookoff Competition. Yum Yum.
